Today was rainy and foggy – very hard to see out however we did spot alot of pinniped (seal and sea lion) activity at Clover Point and it made me wonder who else was around… I actually had this gut feeling and then ….. from today’s sighting report:

Ken Balcomb of the Center for Whale Research called to say they had received a report from Ian in Sooke, BC, of J pod off Race Rocks at 2:30 pm today heading east. Mallard reported them approaching Trial Island, still inbound, at 5:30 pm.

Hi Susan
A report of Jpod south of Victoria at 1346 from Ian at Naturally Salty Tours, whales going N.E. I looked until 1520 from one of our lookouts but nothing but fog and rain. Mark “Mallard” Malleson has just called to report whales just coming up on Trial Island at 1721 at least 4 and a large male going east but light is going fast. Ian did report the new calf.

Well I will be sure to peel my eyes tomorrow now that I know that orcas are back in town! I live across from Trial Island so knowing they passed “inbound” means they were close but it was dark at 5:30. Still this is a bit hard to take from one who has orca withdrawls!
